Meet Our Staff

Learn about who you will see at the Nursery and doing Landscape Design and Installation.

Rob Wier, co-owner

I have been fascinated with nature and plants since the first grade. I’ve worked in a couple of nurseries and landscape companies prior to starting Shades Of Green with longtime friend and partner, Jeff McCauley in 1976. I graduated from Texas A&M University in 1978 with a B.S. in Horticulture and am still learning something new about gardening every day! A native of Dallas, I’ve lived in and watched the metroplex grow all my life. I’m glad to be able to share my local experience and knowledge of landscaping, trees, and well-adapted plants that can meet the challenge of gardening today and into tomorrow. Be sure to check out the “Shades Of History” for the full story on how Shades Of Green came to be!

Jeff McCauley, co-owner

I began my career in horticulture at the age of 15 while working in a retail center in Dallas. I put myself through college at Texas A&M while doing lawn maintenance with Rob under the Shades Of Green name. Upon Graduating in 1979 I moved to Dallas to continue Shades Of Green with Rob. I had a taste for the small-town life so I migrated north into Denton County and then to rural Collin County. Managing the Landscape department is rewarding and challenging, having to balance between what customers want and what they need. There are so many elements involved here. The nursery and landscape business is unique because there is always something new that is being introduced and explored. Between my two children, my wife Mary, and the tasks at hand, I seem to always stay busy.

Brice Creelman, Grower

Born and raised in upstate New York, I discovered my love for horticulture as a young boy while working on a farm that happened to have a glass greenhouse where orchids where being grown. Working with the plants and learning about them was much more fun than feed the cows! I moved to Texas after high school and worked at North Haven Gardens for seven years. After getting married, we returned to New York only to realize after five long winters and no chicken-fried steak that we wanted to return to Texas. I then worked at Tawakoni Plant Farms in east Texas before coming to Shades Of Green in November of 2000. I love native plants and enjoy being a part of Shades Of Green’s growing operation in Collinsville. My wife and I live in an Alsytne, Texas with our cat.

Randy Stinnett, Nursery Manager

The nursery industry is a second career for me. My first was banking after graduating from Texas A&M. A native of Texas, I’ve lived in the Dallas area since 1988. I can trace my gardening background back to my grandparents. They shared their tomatoes and jalapenos grown in the narrow alley beds, many different irises, perennial flowers and peaches, along with the vast knowledge of insects and birds. I’m an avid reader of gardening books, trade publications and magazines. I became a certified nurseryman in 2003 and have enjoyed continually learning from my coworkers and customers.

At my house I’ve been organic gardening for well over a decade. I really love roses, bulbs and growing plants from seed. My recent interests have been with water-wise gardening and xeriscaping. Water conservation will continue to be a hot topic in the nursery industry, however, my friends would tell you I have different motive for saving water in my landscape. I’m too cheap to pay for more of it! Despite anyone’s motives, we ALL will have to do our part to save water for the future.

Tammie Jost, Assistant Manager

I have two passions in life, my family and plants!  My interest in growing things started very youing. My mother's parents owned a small nursery in Wichita, Kansas. "Grandpa Jack" and Grand Mary" encouraged my interest in horticulture by providing me an opportunity to work in the nursery. I loved the work and the soil on my hands.

My interest continued with a degree from Kansas State University with a B.S. in Agriculture, Horticultural Studies. A few years later after graduation, my husband and I moved to Texas, where we made our home and raised our daughter. Living in Texas has made me a better gardener, not always successful but definitely experienced. I will always be in debt to the ones who share their passion with me.

Casey Wier, Landscape Designer

As co-owner Rob's son, Casey has been "in" the business his whole life.  Casey started working at the nursery during high school helping out at company events making popcorn and handing out cold drinks.  Casey worked summers at the tree farm pruning and caring for the trees.  He worked part-time 4 years while attending UNT planting trees, installing landscapes, performing clean-ups, doing deliveries, and assisting with nursery sales.  After graduating in December 2010, Casey is now working with Jeff on Landscape Designs and sales, clean-ups and color plantings.  And he still makes a great bag of popcorn!
